Officer Tillman and Loki shared how protection and emotional support go paw-in-paw.

Twenty-first-grade students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational K-9 Meet and Greet at school. The room was filled with anticipation as scholars welcomed Officer Tillman and his K-9 partner, Loki.

While students were happy to meet Officer Tillman and learn about his important role in keeping the community safe, Loki quickly became the star of the visit. Smiles stretched from ear to ear as the energetic and well-trained K-9 greeted the students.

Officer Tillman explained that K-9s are specially trained police dogs who assist officers with important duties such as locating missing individuals, detecting specific scents, protecting their partners, and helping during emergency situations. Students learned that K-9s practice regularly, follow detailed commands, and build strong, trusting relationships with their handlers.

In addition to his law enforcement responsibilities, students were excited to learn that Loki also provides emotional support. Officer Tillman shared how K-9s can help calm individuals during stressful situations and offer comfort simply by being present. This helped students understand that police dogs not only protect communities but also care for the people within them.

The visit was both informative and heartwarming. By the end of the meet and greet, 20 first graders left with a deeper understanding of teamwork, safety, and the many ways Officer Tillman and Loki serve their community.
